ESOS is a mandatory energy assessment scheme for British organisations who have 250+ employees or annual turnover in excess of £44 million.
On Thursday 21st April 2022, Groundwork hosted a webinar detailing more about the energy assessment, providing tips and advice to businesses who were unsure how to get started.
The recording, including the Q&A’s can be viewed below:
Webinar speakers
Mark Jones, Associate Consultant at Groundwork, delivered the core presentation. Mark is a carbon and energy consultant with 15 years of experience in energy consultancy and energy saving projects. He is an ESOS Lead Assessor with the Energy Institute and has a wealth of experience undertaking energy surveys and audits.
In the webinar Mark spoke through the ESOS qualification criteria, the timeline of events, the three routes to compliance, failure to comply outcomes and the steps businesses now needed to take.
In addition we heard from Sally Roulston, Senior Sustainability Consultant at Groundwork, who discussed how ESOS fits into a businesses wider sustainability strategy.
Sally also shared the IPCC’s latest comprehensive review of climate science, which presented some striking evidence requiring everyone to adopt a “now or never” dash to a low-carbon economy and society.
With energy consumption being the second largest contributor to the UKs greenhouse gas emissions, ESOS compliance and businesses acting on the findings from their energy audits, has the ability to contribute to the UK’s 2050 net zero emissions goal.
Getting started with ESOS
If you’re looking for a Lead Assessor or for someone to support you from start to finish, several of Groundwork’s Sustainability Consultants are qualified as ESOS Lead Assessors, and are available to help.
The team are available to support your audit process, survey sites and crunch your numbers remotely.
Once you have collected the energy data, we would happily work with you to identify any cost-effective energy saving measures, undertake cost-benefit analysis and decide which actions you want to take forward on your journey to sustainability.
There may also be opportunities to cost-save by undertaking other compliance based assessments such as TM44’s whilst we are on site.
