Willis Construction Awarded Level 2 Green Dragon Environmental Accreditation

Willis Construction have been established for more than 30 years and currently operate out of their head office in Cardiff. As a company who pride themselves on their commitment to environmental and social sustainability they have been Green Dragon accredited since 2016. In 2020 we are proud to award them Level 2 of the Green Dragon Environmental Accreditation.

Willis Construction traditionally deliver planned maintenance and refurbishment contracts for social housing landlords but have increased their capacity and capability for new build projects along with insurance claims repairs.

Maintaining environmental standards

Willis Construction’s most significant environmental impacts are the emissions due to transport activities and waste production and the original key recommendations to reduce these impacts have all been achieved. However, the company takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously and is keen to consider additional measures of good practice.

New environmental actions

Thorough the 2020 environmental accreditation process Willis Construction were able to demonstrate:

  • An excellent record of pollution prevention for all sites which always aimed to use best environmental practice.
  • The installation of a solar photovoltaic system onto the head office roof, to reduce grid generated electricity and also providing a green income.
  • A Waste Management Plan for every site, which provided a structure for waste delivery and disposal at all stages of the construction project.

Through working with the Green Dragon accreditation levels the company have further strengthened their knowledge and impact on biodiversity.

Willis Construction have been adding additional features to new build social housing schemes including brick bat boxes.

Through partnership with the RSPB and a local school they have also developed an ornithology project where they installed seven new swift boxes.

“As the majority of our clients have always been public sector, we have been delivering social sustainability added value initiatives for many years. Accordingly, our approach to corporate social responsibility has naturally evolved during this period and we now consider the Green Dragon Environmental Standard to be a fundamental element to this. Apart from the legal and compliance aspects, Green Dragon has a number of powerful benefits, not least being the reassurance to clients and stakeholders that we also take environmental management seriously. Additionally, the implementation of an Environmental Management System has improved company systems and staff understanding, influenced decision making and led to operational and commercial efficiencies.”
