Throughout 2024 Groundwork’s Sustainable Business Consultants supported Siemens with a package of Environmental Training which upskilled and refreshed their HSE Managers & Assistants sustainability knowledge.
Groundwork developed a combination of online and in-person environmental training sessions covering:
- Carbon & Energy
- Natural Resources & Waste
- Biodiversity & Pollution Prevention
The Carbon & Energy half daysession clarified key definitions related to carbon & Net Zero as well as explaining how to collate and monitor data for Scope 3 emission categories. Trainees were encouraged to identify actions which would support on-site carbon reduction and work towards the Siemens Net Zero target.
The Natural Resources & Waste half day session explored the wider context of natural resource consumption and waste including relevant environmental legislation. As in session one, trainees were encouraged to explore opportunities to implement efficiency measures.
The third online, half day session focused on Biodiversity & Pollution Prevention and discussed the potential impacts on biodiversity that on/off-site activity has, as well as best practice to prevent pollution.
In August, HSE Managers & Assistants from Siemens came together in person for a full day Carbon Literacy course. This was a bespoke Carbon Literacy course linked specific to Siemens’ operations and Net Zero strategy.
Although the attendee’s knowledge in sustainability was already strong, the main intention of the course was to clearly communicate climate change, individual and organisation responsibilities to the wider Siemens workforce, which is made up of over XXX employees. Following the initial Carbon Literacy training, participants took part in a Train the Trainer course which enabled them to deliver the content to their own team, empowering people to take action for the planet.
James Dybell, Head of EHS from Siemens took part in all 5 parts of the training package and commented.
Working with Groundwork has helped us to upskill not just our EHS community, but also our wider workforce. This will really help us drive our sustainability journey going forward and will empower our people to make a real difference in our Net Zero Strategy.
