Improving Energy Efficiency at the Dudson Centre – a case study
Background:
The managing tenant of the Dudson Centre, VAST, operate a grade 2 listed, multiple use building in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent. The building includes multiple office spaces, meeting rooms, a cafe and a museum in the old pot bank which is situated at the centre of the building’s courtyard. VAST were looking to find ways through which they could lower the emissions and energy costs of the site.
Support provided:
Groundwork’s Energy Consultant Jack conducted an on-site visit for the Dudson Centre and VAST’s office space and from here was able to produce an energy assessment report, carbon reduction plan and net-zero pathway.
The first action in the plan was for an LED lighting with occupancy sensor project, with subsequent recommendations including installation of secondary glazing, installing solar panels and programming the heating systems appropriately.
Outcomes:
After receiving a grant of £2,500 from the local council, VAST initiated the LED lighting and occupancy sensor project for the building’s communal areas saving an estimated £660 and 1.1 tCO2e per year.
Should VAST continue on their trajectory and follow all recommendations in the report, the Dudson Centre could yield savings of £5,000 and 7.1 tCO2e per year.
