The Coastal Exploration Company is an organisation in the East of England who offer sustainable sailing adventures along the north Norfolk coast and waterways.
As part of their commitment to preserving the local environment and reducing their impacts, the company has been working with Groundwork’s Sustainability Consultants to measure their emissions and put in place a decarbonisation plan.
One of the key measures that was explored by the Groundwork team was to replace the existing outboard engines, which are running on fossil fuels, with electric alternatives.
The environmental benefits of moving to electric engines include:
- Reduction is carbon emissions
- Improved local air-quality
- Reduction in water pollution
- Reduction in noise
The Coastal Exploration Company have already upgraded 2 of their boats with new electric outboard engines, which are anticipated to save around 0.5 tonnes of CO2e per year.
