Report shows only 1 in 10 small businesses have a plan to reduce carbon emissions

The British Chambers of Commerce published a report this week that shows that only one in ten (11%) UK businesses are measuring their carbon footprint.

The survey of 1000 British businesses showed that although half of small business owners (49%) acknowledged their customers were worried about the environment, only two thirds saw reducing carbon emissions a business priority in the wake of Covid-19.

The costs to implement changes required within a Carbon Management Plan was the biggest concern highlighted by the surveyed businesses with concerns for both upfront adaptation costs and access to finance.

More concerning was that one in five of the businesses surveyed didn’t understand the challenge presented, stating a lack of understanding of the so called ‘race to net-zero’.
